A lot of New Orleans music tends to have several common qualities: kinda jazzy, kinda funky and lotsa fun.
One of the best-known ambassadors of the New Orleans sound, Dr. John, and his music tend to embody these same qualities. That’s more than evident on “Right Place, Right Time,” the newly released live album from the Dr. John vaults.
As the second volume in a series that’s resulted from Dr. John’s partnership with Hyena Records to release some of his best live shows to the public, this album showcases our hero at the legendary New Orleans club Tipitina’s during Mardi Gras 1989. Along with his six-piece band, Dr. John runs through a set of classic numbers’ some his own and some that belong to others. All the while, his timeless piano strutting shines through, the horns are strong, the rhythm solid and the vibes pure. A good listen.
