I can’t say New Orleans drummer Stanton Moore’s music makes me want to jump and scream for joy, but the man certainly lays down some solid grooves. Whether it’s with his other bands “ Galactic or Garage a Trois “ or on a solo effort, Moore is one of a few musicians on the scene today who consistently makes quality jazz music, and who often brings in elements of funk to make things a little more hip and interesting.
To record “III,” Moore took his tight backing band into New Orleans’ famed Preservation Hall and brought forth music that does not disappoint. The band includes Robert Walter on the Hammond B3 organ and Skerik on sax, but the most impressive sounds come from guitarist Will Bernard and trombonist Mark Mullins, who give the album most of its color and flair.
Pick this up if you’re looking for some new jazz-funk to groove by.
