Not changing his tune

If Bon Jovi, Snoop Dogg, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Faith Hill wanna sing for global warming, they’re not gonna do it at the U.S. Capitol. At least that’s the tune Sen. James Inhofe seemed to be whistling in Washington, recently.

According to a story by, Inhofe is vowing to stall attempts to have the Capitol’s west front play host to Al Gore’s U.S. installment of his July 7 Live Earth concerts. The seven-continent concerts are designed to raise awareness about global warming. (Yes, even in Antarctica!)

“There has never been a partisan political event at the Capitol, and this is a partisan political event,” Inhofe said. “(Democrats) may not be willing to stand up to Al Gore, but many of them found it just as objectionable as Republicans do.”

Although Inhofe no longer heads the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee (a fact of which new chair Barbara Boxer bluntly reminded him at a recent hearing on global warming), he can indefinitely block the resolution that would let the concert be held at the Capitol, according to
Inhofe’s comments come fresh on the heels of a- how shall we describe it?- heated (one-sided) debate with Gore at said recent hearing. One-sided in that Inhofe didn’t give the environmental advocate an opportunity to respond.

Chad Griffin, an adviser to Live Earth, said the resolution for hosting the free (if held at the Capitol) concert was co-sponsored by a Republican and Democrat. The same site was used to inaugurate Earth Day in a 1990 event, according to the story.

But Inhofe didn’t seem to consider accommodation possible in this case: “There’s no compromise,” he said, reported. “Either we change the rules or we don’t.”
OK, CFN intern Bucky says, but how are we going to “Save the Population” if global warming’s not a hoax? Just keep “Livin’ on a Prayer”?

He’s heading for “Higher Ground.”
