The Oklahoma Centennial Book Festival and Conference, an official centennial event, will be held Saturday at the Meinders School of Business on the Oklahoma City University campus, 2501 N. Blackwelder.
“Promoting literacy, reading and the creative art of writing is extremely important to me and Oklahoma,” said Ann Lacy, festival chairperson, in a press release.
Lacy ” whose “Ann Lacy’s Easy Dress Book” will be the basis of an 11 a.m. fashion show at the event ” will be one of more than a dozen authors in attendance.
” sports commentator Frank Deford,
” Pulitzer Prize nominee Carolyn Hart,
” romance writer Merline Lovelace and
” Gary T. King, who wrote “An Autumn Remembered: Bud Wilkinson’s Legendary ’56 Sooners.”
Other events include a screenwriting discussion and critique conducted by “Children of the Corn” director Fritz Kiersch, a talk on entertainment contracts by attorney Jay Shanker and an exhibit hall. A 9 a.m. reception will be stocked with free doughnuts and Starbucks coffee.
Several events are scheduled just for children, including:
” two “readers’ theater” performances and three story hours related to Oklahoma history,
” a hands-on puppet theater,
” craft activities, including making books, paper and puppets, and
” an appearance by the Express Personnel Clydesdale horses.
