The Eyes of Edward James

Reviewer’s grade: A

From horror mag Rue Morgue comes this suspense short, which manages to pack a load of tension into its 15 minutes. Alfred Hitchcock and Brian De Palma would be proud of writer-director Rodrigo Gudiño’s tale of a psychiatry patient recalling the night his wife was murdered. As we hear him discuss the grisly details with his therapist, we see it all through the narrator’s point of view. Entering the dark house is spooky enough; discovering its secrets is genuinely unnerving. Even if the abrupt end elicits a “wait, now what?” reaction, this heralds the debut of an imaginative talent in fright film. —Rod Lott
