You can’t sum up popular Nineties music any better than with Scottish/American alt-rockers Garbage. A new compilation album, set to be released on July 17, features the “best of” Garbage, as well as a bonus disc of remixes.
All of the band’s major hits’ “Stupid Girl,” “Only Happy When It Rains,” “I Think I’m Paranoid” and “When I Grow Up”‘ are included on the first disc, as well as some fantastic, yet lesser-known songs like “Bleed Like Me” and “The World Is Not Enough,” the theme to the James Bond film of the same name.
Most of the remixes are predictably dance-y and dull. The “Milk” remix by Massive Attack is even more haunting than the original. Rabbit in the Moon’s mix of “Queer” is upbeat and electronic, while The Crystal Method’s take on “I Think I’m Paranoid” is jagged and heavy, and definitely worth a listen.
Prediction: The remix disc will be playing in every hip clothing boutique by the end of July.
