The first “Fantastic Four” movie was so-so “ the “Questionable Quartet,” at best. This time out, director Tim Story has worked out the kinks, sharpened his skill working with computer effects, and gained some recognition that these guys’ super powers are pretty damn silly. Adding what is admittedly a generic sci-fi story to unrelenting action, he’s delivered an enjoyable comic-book sequel.
Ioan Gruffud, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis return as the super team, Julian McMahon slithers back as Dr. Doom (did I mention that this is based on a comic book?), and Andre Braugher joins the cast as the belligerent military man who gathers the troops to find out what this silver man (played by Doug Jones, voiced by Laurence Fishburne) on the flying surfboard is up to.
Now, re-read that last sentence. If your expression is quizzical, forget about this one. If it made you grin, buy the ticket. PG
