Young Chefs Academy teaches culinary skills

If your children often are volunteering to be chef assistants at home, “Camp Can I Cook: Summer Road Trip 2007″ just might satisfy their taste.

The summer camp finishes with its last session at either 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 8. The Young Chefs Academy, 3209 S. Broadway in Edmond, is hosting the camp, and future chefs ages 6 to 14 are welcome to join in on the fun.

The road trip has explored food from seven regions of the United States, including:
” creamy grits from the South,
” Chicago deep-dish pizza from the Midwest and
” the Southwest’s dessert nachos.

The three-day camp travels to the Pacific this week, learning fun facts about the region, as well as its cuisine. To start the week, campers will enjoy:
” mango grape salsa,
” shrimp California rolls,
” spinach artichoke dip with pita chips, and
” lemonade layer cake.

Tuesday offers:
” aloha banana bread,
” Caesar salmon salad,
” chocolate baked Alaska and
” Hawaiian sweet potatoes.

If campers haven’t yet had their fill, Wednesday they’ll be making:
” pear-cranberry muffins,
” taffy-apple pizza,
” turkey ham asparagus rolls and
” West Coast brown rice.

Camps are $125 per camper. Call 285-5939 for more information.
