Running Thursday through Saturday, the 93rd Oklahoma County Free Fair isn’t just for adults. Kids that compete in the fair just may win some cash, too.
The fair invites youth 5-19 years old to enter into the Open Youth category, with cash prizes awarded for:
” woodworking projects,
” baked goods,
” computer designs,
” sewing projects,
” horticulture and
” livestock. Entries can be turned in from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Centennial Building at the state fairgrounds.
“County fairs are excellent ways for children to be introduced to competition. Everyone gets some kind of ribbon, but if children enter quality projects, odds are they’re going to come out a winner,” said LaDonna Dunlop, Oklahoma County Cooperative Extension family and consumer sciences educator. “Also, the categories do pay premiums, which always seems to inspire the kids.”
” Kids 12 and younger can compete in the kiddie tractor pull at 11 a.m. Saturday.
” At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, kids 19 and younger can enter the ice cream sundae contest.
” Also on Saturday, clowns will offer free face painting and balloon animal designs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This will be the fair’s 93rd year. The event will take place in the Centennial Building at State Fair Park, 333 Gordon Cooper. For more information, call 713-1125.
