I Am Legend

Reviewer’s grade: C-

Just in time for the holidays, here’s a new movie “” it only seems old “” with Will Smith and his faithful dog doing battle with rabid, flesh-eating zombies, both animal and human. You won’t look at a turkey carcass the same way ever again. A miracle cure for cancer has done the big oopsie and turned 90 percent of Earth’s population into monsters.

Does that mean that 100 percent had cancer and only 10 percent were immune to the drug’s side effects? If you’re the kind of moviegoer who asks obvious questions like that, you’d best stay home.

This picture sidesteps so many simple questions, you’d think it was entered in the Iowa primary. Smith does good work as a man who is being driven slowly nutso by loneliness and constant tension, and he has a terrific moment as he begs a mannequin to say “hello” to him. His performance is the movie’s best feature, but as you watch it, you’ll wonder if he couldn’t have saved if for a better script. PG-13
