Members of MiniKiss may not be full-size, but play full-on

A short-statured Kiss tribute act is set to rock ‘n’ roll all night Thursday at Skyy Bar when New York-based MiniKiss, comprised entirely of little people, takes the stage to sing some of the epic group’s top tunes.

“We make sure we play a lot of the popular songs by Kiss, and I just recently started to do blood and fire. We do Kiss to a T,” said Joey Fatale, founder of MiniKiss.

BIRTH
Fatale was not new to the entertainment industry when he conceived MiniKiss in 1996. Like many little people trying to make it in show business, he’d worked gigs as elves, dwarves and Oompa-Loompas. But when asked to create something new for a Halloween show at a Manhattan bar, Fatale’s childhood love for Seventies heavy metal band Kiss immediately came to mind.

“I was inspired by Kiss when I was a kid,” he said. “And then about 10 years ago, I was looking through my Kiss ‘Alive!’ album, and I just looked at it and said, ‘This would be so cool: little people dressed up as Kiss.'”

EVOLUTION
For its first appearance, the group lip-synched Kiss favorites, but the band has since graduated to singing along live to recorded tracks.

“This is my love,” Fatale said. “Coming up on St. Patrick’s Day, it’s the usual: All of my friends are doing elves and leprechauns. I’m not doing that. I’m doing MiniKiss. And I’d rather do this than go be a leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day.” “Chris Willard
