Jones gets new storm shelter

After a fire destroyed Jones High School last December, the tight-knit community continues to bounce back from tragedy ” and enlisting a new zone of safety.

With the high school gymnasium now gone, the new primary location for Jones’ storm shelter safety room is located in Jones Elementary School, 13145 Montana.

Patti Fields, emergency management director with the city of Jones, said the new shelter, open and ready for use, is of great importance during the stormy season months.

“This safety room was originally designed to be used as a storm shelter,” Fields said. “We were using the high school gymnasium and dungeon, when this is really the primary place to be for storm safety.”

Continuing its comeback, members of the senior class of Jones High School got a treat last month when Rep. Mary Fallin hosted a dinner in their honor at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill in Bricktown.
