The 2004 comedy “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” was an obviously stupid, largely pointless movie about two stoners, Harold Lee (John Cho, “American Dreamz,” “In Good Company”) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn, “Epic Movie,” “The Namesake”), and their pot-fueled quest for hamburgers, drugs and trim. Unfortunately, the sequel, “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay,” tries too hard to infuse topical humor and unrealistic plot elements, and winds up being a mostly unfunny disaster.
While en route on a plane to Amsterdam, the Asian and Indian duo is confused for terrorists by an overzealous old lady who sees Kumar with an elaborate bong and mistakes it for a bomb. The pair is quickly air-marshaled and taken to Guantanamo Bay, thanks to stupid Homeland Security agent Ron Fox (Rob Corddry, “Semi-Pro,” “The Heartbreak Kid”) and hilarity ensues, supposedly, while the boys try to escape, clear their names, call off a wedding, get stoned and get laid.
