The Village hosts pet parade, adoption drive

It’s a dog-meet-dog world. Pack up your pooch and head to The Village for “A Dog Walk in the Park,” a fund-raiser, pet parade and adoption drive for metro mutts and local hound handlers.

The 9 a.m. Saturday event features a 1.5-mile dog walk that starts at Duffner Park, 1434 Duffner, and winds its way through The Village. The walk is sponsored by The Bella Foundation, a local nonprofit that focuses on animal rescue and pet health issues. The foundation assists pet owners who cannot afford to pay veterinary or clinic bills, and are committed to finding homes for abandoned, ill and elderly animals.

Dozens of vendors and information booths from members of animal-centric groups and companies like the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter, Barking Dog Bakery and Central Park Dog Day Care will be on-site with pet products, free samples and animal demonstrations.

Eric McCune, president and co-founder of The Bella Foundation, said the dog walk “may be the largest gathering of adoption agencies” in the metro, and will showcase everything from reptiles to Great Danes.

Registration for the dog walk starts at 9 a.m. If you don’t have a dog, McCune said visitors can sign up to walk a shelter dog.
