Oklahoma Film Critics Circle picks top releases

For its third time, the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle ” the state’s professional association of movie critics ” has released its picks for the year’s top releases. “Slumdog Millionaire” was selected as the best motion picture of 2008, just one vote ahead of “The Dark Knight.”

The remaining films selected for the year’s 10 best were, alphabetically, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Doubt,” “Frost/Nixon,” “Happy-Go-Lucky,” “Milk,” “Rachel Getting Married,” “WALL-E” and “The Wrestler.”

Other awards bestowed by the OFCC ” comprised of 18 statewide critics, including five from Oklahoma Gazette ” for 2008 included:

Best Actress: Sally Hawkins, “Happy-Go-Lucky” Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler” Best Supporting Actress: Marisa Tomei, “The Wrestler” Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight” Best Director: Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire” Best First Feature: Charlie Kaufman, “Synecdoche, New York” Best Screenplay, Original: “The Wrestler,” “Milk” (tie) Best Screenplay, Adaptation: “Slumdog Millionaire” Best Documentary: “Man on Wire” Best Foreign Film: “Let the Right One In” Best Animated Film: “WALL-E” Obviously Worst Film:  “The Love Guru” Not-So-Obviously Worst Film: “Mamma Mia!”
