In just a few weeks, your child will be singing like Hannah Montana and moving like Zac Efron, minus the Disney contracts, in the “Pop Disney Style Show Choir” class at ArtzPlace in Midwest City.
The class starts Monday and runs through June 29 and will focus on three past and present Disney songs. The classes will help kids memorize the music, master choreography, and learn how to combine the two skills. The class is fun-filled, but organizers say kids will be given homework assignments to learn the music faster.
Instructor Alyssa Burnett, also a choir teacher at Del Crest Middle School, said many elementary school children aren’t given opportunities to combine singing and dancing like their older middle school and high school peers. Many metro elementary schools don’t have a show choir or offer stage time beyond the school play, she said.
The “Pop Disney” program will help kids with solo songs, but Burnett said the class also teaches cooperation and teamwork.
“Some kids want to be the star,” she said. “They’ve seen Disney, they’ve seen the stars, but to work in a team is the main goal.”
“Pop Disney Style Show Choir” is for kids ages 6-12. No experience is necessary and no audition is required. The $72 class is held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at ArtzPlace, 1730 Center Drive. Registration is required. For more information, call 732-4278.
