Dear Chicken-Fried News fans and editor,
Just a little clarification regarding Garth and Reba not being in the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame (“‘Sex You Up’ ” yes; Garth ” no,” Chicken-Fried News, Aug. 19, Gazette). They have both been nominated, selected and invited to be inducted into the OMHOF.
This honor does include a performance for the fans at the induction ceremony, per our bylaws for living artists. These are two very busy and “in demand” artists. We stand ready when they are ready.
In the meantime, there are hundreds of songwriters, musicians and artists who have shaped Oklahoma’s rich musical heritage that deserve to be inducted. The OMHOF’s mission is to honor, preserve and promote all genres of Oklahoma music.
Also, Hinder and The All-American Rejects were selected to receive “Rising Star” awards, just as Carrie did several years and 10 million albums ago.
The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame & Museum Inc. was created by legislation signed by the governor in 1996 and has inducted more than 50 artists since the first induction ceremony in 1997. It’s home is the historic Frisco Depot in Muskogee. The nonprofit organization is working to build a new, world-class museum to honor those who have created Oklahoma’s most loved export ” Oklahoma music!
