Diane Jackson is remembered for her kindness, humor and empathy. She also had a practiced eye behind the camera.

With a team of her friends assembling some of her most remarkable works, the public can relive some of her Jackson’s moments through her own lens, at a retrospective exhibit that debuted last week at Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan.

Jackson died from cancer in February 2009. Lifelong friend Ellen Johnson was sorting through Jackson’s possessions with other friends when they came across a number of captivating photographs.

“We looked at these photographs and thought, ‘People need to see these,'” Johnson said. “We just knew we had to do something with them.”

She presented the materials to IAO Gallery, which agreed to showcase the works; Jackson’s many friends made donations for prints and framing.

The prints represent a life marked with wonder, adventure and creativity. Jackson traveled the world, studied yoga in India, and worked with every imaginable subject, injecting her sweet demeanor into every shoot.

“She got to know her subjects and interacted with all of them,” Johnson said. “That’s how she got these wonderful shots. She had such a good eye for capturing life’s moments.”

“Diane Jackson: A Retrospective” is on display through Sept. 4. The gallery is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 232-6060 or visit http://www.iaogallery.org. “”Joshua Boydston
