“Beneath the Surface”
In Your Eye Studio & Gallery
6-10 p.m. reception Friday
through Oct. 30
Four local artists have joined for an artistic journey guided by nature and its intricacies.
In Your Eye Studio & Gallery owner Gayle Curry has put together a collaborative art exhibit with Janice Mathews-Gordon, Natalie Friedman and Diana Smith, titled “Beneath the Surface.” Each artist will focus on a subject found in nature and use that theme throughout their works.
Curry is exploring the Tao Te Ching, an ancient Chinese text that relates everything back to nature. Friedman is incorporating themes of Japanese garden design into her abstract, mixed-media pieces. “Taking Shape,” a visual diary comprised of collage paintings, is the focus of Mathews-Gordon’s portion of the project, while Smith is creating her paintings, “Behind the Eyes of a Dog,” in an effort to chronicle the evolution of man’s best friend.
These artists’ works mesh well together, Curry said.
“This collaboration is one of the most inspiring and fun things I’ve done in a long time,” she said.
“Beneath the Surface” opens with a 6-10 p.m. reception Friday at the gallery, 3005 Paseo, and continues through Oct. 30. The completed works of the “Beneath the Surface” will be shown next year.
