While Curves, a national chain with four metro locations, doesn’t allow your kiddos to tag along, I found it convenient to drop in for a quick 30-minute workout on their circuit. Unlike fullservice fitness clubs, Curves is a circuitonly program, providing complete cardio and strength training in a half-hour, which gives your whole body a workout and gets your heart rate up, thanks to the adjustable machines. In just a few months, I was able to drop 8 pounds and several inches by going only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while my little tyke was in Kids’ Day Out.

For you dance-y types, Jazzercise claims you can burn up to 600 calories in a 60-minute total-body workout. Set to modern music, Jazzercise blends jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing. There are four metro locations. Even better, jazzercise.com includes videos to teach some of the basic steps, such as the standard grapevine, so you can practice before you get to class.
The YMCA may not be womenonly, but it’s certainly mom-friendly.
With a well-staffed children’s area, moms can exercise anywhere in the facility while the young ones are supervised.
Moms in search of “om” can find many yoga classes in the metro at fitness clubs or yoga studios. Yoga Room OKC, 4027 N. Classen, provides several types of yoga, ranging from the beginner to the expert, with classes in Tai Chi, “rock and flow,” vinyasa and Pilates.
New mamas can even workout with their babes, thanks to Baby Boot Camp, a national franchise with a location in Norman. The stroller-based workout combines cardio and strength training.
All of these options means Mom can not only get healthy, but stay happy.
