And how should we reward ourselves? Clothes. Lovely clothes that can still stand up to warm weather, but that will help us transition into autumn. I’m so happy, I could weep with joy, but instead, I’ll settle with pulling out my collection of tights and snuggling with them.
Retropolitan (1489 E. 15th; 359- 8808) seems like a perfect fall place, doesn’t it? The easy dresses and slouchy cardies practically come with a trip to the pumpkin patch.
There’s a lot to love there. Take the Double Zero tie-waist dress in a dark khaki with cute brass buttons or the Blue Bird plaid tunic in the classic fall colors of orange, brown and gray. Both are perfect for days with a bit of a chill.
I also liked the simple black maxi dress by Renee C. It’ll be easy to take it into fall with a fun, patterned scarf and a light jacket or cardigan.
I especially loved an adorable strapless sweater dress in heather gray or forest green. The dress — which is belted with a pleated skirt — is in a light enough fabric for now, but would also work well with tights and a wrap.
In Nichols Hills Plaza, former Edmond store Marcy & Abbey’s (6460 Avondale Drive; 879-9781) has been open in its new space for about six weeks. The boutique looks fantastic, with blond wood floors, great art, and the clothes displayed beautifully.
For simple layering, check out the T-shirt all-star, Michael Stars. These paper-thin tees are long-sleeved and come in some great basic colors. I also loved another basic (that is anything but) by Gold Hawk. These are simple, silk slip dresses in black, camel or dark brown (many with a sheer panel at the hem or delicate lace) that would
be perfect for autumn paired with tights and a wrap or jacket.
Glory be! The return of the boot-cut!
I also loved Gold Hawk’s tie-waist shirt dress done in a lovely gray silk.
For a true fall look, you have to check out the classic red-and-blackchecked plaid blouse by Arnold Zimberg. It has that whole “rugged lumberjack” thing going for it, except with a floppy, girly neck bow. It is seriously cool.
Plaid also gets some love at Lime Leopard (12204 N. May; 755-3456) inside Northpark Mall in the form of a plaid tunic by Blake.
Lime Leopard has fantastic fall colors in right now with its lovely knits, tops and dresses. Check out the cooler-weather-perfect tie-waist blouses by Blue Bird. The flowy blouses would be great with jeans and flats and come in dark blue and khaki. I also really liked the scoop-neck, long-sleeve tee by Ella Moss done in a super-soft teal and oatmeal stripe.
Lime Leopard has a nice selection of jeans. (And glory be! The return of the boot-cut!) Look for dark-wash jeans by Citizens for Humanity and 7 for All Mankind. For great layering, check out the scarves and wraps that range from super-soft infinity scarves done in slouchy jersey to luxe patterned silk.
