My funky valentine

Not everyone is entrenched in coupledom. The downtown Metropolitan Library, 300 Park Ave., hosts Book of Love, a free, speed-dating social for ages 25 to 45, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Guys will be seated at stations while ladies rotate through every five minutes. At the end of the night, cards will be turned in and matched, and pairs announced. Intrigued? Call 231- 8650 for more info.

“We suggest everyone bring their favorite book [as an icebreaker] to the event,” said Kim Terry, director of marketing and communication for the Metropolitan Library System. “We’re trying to reach out to a diverse audience by having some fun programs that people would never think [are held] at the library.”

For a cultural affair, celebrate at the Reduxion Theatre Company, 1613 N. Broadway, where the romantic comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” is running. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Are you part of a sporty pair or group of friends? Run into your weekend. Edmond’s Mitch Park, 1501 W. Covell, hosts the 17th annual Frigid Five run (and walk).

“We
have our fingers crossed about the weather,” said Marcus Whitt, race
director. “We want to promote healthy living and encourage people to
come focused on themselves.”

This
year’s proceeds benefit local high school cross-country teams, Edmond
Parks & Recreation and Allied Arts. Cost is $25, which includes a
race T-shirt. Register at edmondrunningclub.com.

Everyone
may not have romance on their mind. If that’s the case, check out one
of the 11 area-wide Henry Hudson’s pubs Tuesday for Singles Awareness
Day.

The highlight,
which begins at 7 p.m., is the Shred Your Ex Anti-Valentine’s Day
celebration. Patrons are invited to bring a picture of a former
boyfriend or girlfriend to, well, shred. The ritual will get you one
free domestic beer.
