Tiffany Magness and her assistant, Kerstin Bellah, represented Green Goodies, 5840 N. Classen Blvd., a staple cupcakery of Classen Curve since 2009.
In October, when the episode was taped, the pair participated in three timed rounds, baking specialty cupcakes along two other competing teams, Magness said.
Sunday night’s airing broke eight months of secrecy for the duo, who won the ultimate $10,000 prize, which will go right back into the business, Magness said.
“It was probably one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever had in the baking world,” she said.
Between the casting director’s call and the show’s fall taping, Magness and Bellah formed a game plan, choosing potential cupcakes to bake and practicing making them in 45 minutes, the shortest time frame and the length of the first round.
The episode spotlighted actress Fran Drescher’s charity, Cancer Schmancer, which advocates prevention and early detection of cancer through a healthy lifestyle, according to the organization’s mission statement.
This particular competition’s vegan, gluten-free requirement gave Magness and Bellah an advantage as they succeeded in each round, first with a dark-chocolate, coconut-caramel cupcake, then lemon pomegranate and finally, a vanilla bean, a hazelnut and a chipotle, dark-chocolate cupcake, Magness said.
Magness hopes the episode will increase exposure for Green Goodies. She is featuring Samoa, the dark-chocolate, coconut-caramel winner, as this month’s special.
