And no, it has nothing to do with a Scarface scenario or a … well, you know (and don’t pretend that you don’t).
It’s better, actually. While a shopping column on where to get gutter glitter locally would most certainly increase my gangsta street cred, I’m relatively sure it would result in an Orange is the New Black scenario, only minus the book deal and TV series.
But winds of change are indeed blowing in Oklahoma City, in the form of blow-outs.
You know that glamorous feeling after a trip to the salon? Well, now you can have that (men, I’m talking to you, too) any day of the week, sans cut, color and dollar signs.
The concept of a blow-dry bar is a little foreign to the metro. Here’s the deal: You make an appointment, flip through a look-book/menu and then hand over your locks to the stylist. It’s especially awesome for special events or if you wash your hair one to two times a week.
If you’re around Midtown, check out Dry/Shop Blow-Dry Bar & Boutique (1212 N. Walker; 761-2485). The menu of services includes “You won’t ask why after you try” for $35, which is a customized blow-out and style, as well as the “Feeling lovely today?” for $25, a dry style for those who’ve already washed their hair.
Dry/Shop also offers scalp massages, because who doesn’t love that?
Get a braid put in, have a bridal/formal up-do consult or just shop. That’s right, you can shop, too, because it’s a boutique. It’s basically a trap for people who love looking and feeling awesome.
More of a Classen Curve kinda gal? I’m feelin’ ya, and so is blo. (5850 N. Classen Blvd.; 286-2900).
there’s a “Bond, James Bond” on its menu for $25, which I can guarantee
will be worth every (Money)penny. Get a blow-out touchup for $18, or
bring in the young ones for a “Strawberry Shortcake,” styles for those
ages 12 and under.
Plan on making this a regular treat in your life? Consider a membership or package. They range from $65 to $390.
Blow Dry Bar (6492 Avondale Drive, Nichols Hills; 842- 5874) has a menu
full of luminous ladies to help give a visual of what your look might
look like. Try the Lucy, the signature, low-volume look with loose
waves. If you’re searching for volume, go with Debbie, a big and bouncy
look for your locks.
For real, treat yourself to a nice blow-out. Let’s shop, OKC!
