OU football coach Bob Stoops named Knight — a redshirt freshman — the starter for the Sooners’ opening matchup vs. Louisiana Monroe. Until recently, many considered Blake Bell — aka the Belldozer — to be a shoe-in for the job, but Knight has impressed OU coaches with his ability to make big plays against OU’s defense in practices and scrimmages. Knight was impressive enough to supplant a junior who’s scored 24 career rushing touchdowns over the last two years.
Knight hails from Reagan High School in San Antonio. He was a touted recruit. Rivals.com and 247sports.com ranked him among the top 10 at his position in the class of 2012.
Unfortunately, being the starting quarterback at OU means you must win either a Heisman or a National Championship, otherwise you might as well quit the sport. But hey, good luck!
