On Dec. 9, News9 reported that the heating system at the jail is out of date and, therefore, unable to adequately heat the entire building.
While parts of the building are kept warm, others stay a little on the chilly side. The sheriff’s department told News9 that hot air travels nine blocks from the east to heat the 13-story building and that updating the heating system would cost millions of dollars, literally.
“It’s a never-ending issue
here to make sure that we do the best to keep this entire 13-story
facility at a comfortable temperature,” Sheriff John Whetsel said.
think it would stand to reason that if they heated the air only four
and a half blocks away and closed off half the building, it would split
the cost and everybody could be warm. But what do we know?
