Chicken-Fried News: Rough water ahead

Bids for a proposed whitewater facility along the Oklahoma River came into the City of Oklahoma City last month almost $20 million over the estimated $23.8 million price tag.

It was curveball for the city and one of its signature MAPS 3 projects, but it’s hard to fault city leaders for getting the estimate wrong. Predicting the price of a whitewater course is no easy task, especially here in landlocked Oklahoma. The city council voted last month to move forward with the project and find ways to save money along the way.

Just like riding a real whitewater course, the city has decided to jump on the boat and trust it will make it to the end, despite the fact that there will be plenty of choppy waters ahead.
