A group of politicians recently gathered to state the obvious with a round-table-like discussion comprised of toothless actions and comments. Business as usual, right? Well, this time, the panel was comprised of women who have held public office in the state discussing the need for more women in politics.

In 2013, a record number of women headed to Congress, making up 18 percent of the body. However, our state ranks among the lowest for female legislators at 13.4 percent, despite females making up 51 percent of the state’s population.

Also, just two out of nine Oklahoma state Supreme Court justices are women.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma incarcerates more women per capita than any other place on Earth and our state ranks third in the nation for the number of women killed by men per capita. But, hey, at least we have a female governor, right?
