Are there a lot of people in jail on drug charges? Definitely. Are visitors often caught trying to smuggle drugs into jails? All the time. But it’s always shocking when the person trying to smuggle drugs into a jail is a detention officer.

Oklahoma County jailer Alexander Plant was recently caught with 6.5 grams of meth in his sock while on his way into work.

NewsOn6.com reported that the sheriff’s office was told about Plant’s involvement in the plot during an investigation by the district attorney’s office.

“When something like this happens, we feel like it’s just a slap in the face for everybody,” said Mark Opgrande, an Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. “He swore an oath to uphold the law, and he tarnished that oath and the uniform that he wore.”

Plant had a text conversation with Jason Tucker and arranged to pick the meth up from a restroom in a Wal-Mart on Northwest Expressway. Plant allegedly was to be paid $1,000 to deliver the drugs.

He was attempting to smuggle meth for Caden Matthews, in jail on a marijuana charge, reported NewsOn6.com.
