Chicken-Fried News: Galavanting Gary

As if ice cream wasn’t enough, some Uber users received a very special delivery Friday when Academy Award-nominated actor and longtime former Tulsa resident Gary Busey showed up across Oklahoma City with their sweet treats.

Busey, known for his work in The Buddy Holly Story and Lethal Weapon, as well as his erratic behavior and a stint on Celebrity Rehab, tweeted July 14 that he would man an ice cream truck to help deliver ice cream bars to people who requested them using the ride-sharing service’s app.

“Delivering #UberIceCream in OKC with @Uber_OK tomorrow! Request ICE CREAM from 11am-3pm,” he tweeted, gathering interest from people across the city.

Anthem Brewing Co. responded, “We need this to happen. How do we get Gary to the brewery tomorrow?”

KTOK radio host Jason Doyle invited the actor to be a guest on his show. Cofounder of The Curbside Chronicle and legislative assistant Whitley O’Conner asked Busey to deliver treats to the Oklahoma State Capitol.

Oklahoma State University Foundation development director Keegan Davis, meanwhile, tried to lure Busey back to Stillwater, where he attended college before leaving one credit shy of graduation.

Oklahoma Gazette tried to nab the elusive Amazon Fire pitchman, as well, but instead made do eating delicious ice cream delivered by a helpful and friendly Uber driver who wasn’t Busey and watching Point Break again.
