Appoint of order

Gazette staff January 30th, 2013

The grapes might be dangerously sour after sitting idle for nearly two years for the state superintendent runner-up, Sen. Susan Paddack, D-Ada.

Paddack, who lost that 2010 election to Janet Barresi, has filed a joint resolution to make the job appointive instead of elective. The legislator has said the proposal — which would also make the offices of insurance and labor commissioners appointed positions — has nothing whatsoever to do with that previous race.

And to be fair, some might suspect Paddack’s suggestion has more to do with Barresi’s track record. After all, Barresi’s promise to change Oklahoma’s education system isn’t exactly going over as peacefully as her supporters might have hoped.
