Norman museum holds Native American Youth Language Fair

A battle of wits and words will be waged Thursday and Friday at the fifth annual Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair.
 
Held at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, 2401 Chautauqua in Norman, participants will demonstrate their knowledge of more than 18 different American Indian languages.
 
Students compete in spoken language, music and dance categories. Additionally, poster art and bookmaking categories are open to students in grades three through 12, a film/video category is open to sixth- through 12th-graders, and a language advocacy essay category is open to students in grades nine through 12.
 
Guest speakers include Mary Tethla at 9 a.m. Thursday and Pulitzer Prize-winning author N. Scott Momaday at 9 a.m. Friday.
 
Prekindergarten through fifth-grade students will compete between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, and sixth- through 12th-graders will compete between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday.
 
The competition is open to the public at general museum admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 6-17
