Planting the seed

Chelsey Cope’s new band, Elms, is as earthy and native to Oklahoma as the trees that are their namesake. The soulful folk four-piece’s debut EP, Parallel Lines, was recorded at Bell Labs Recording Studio in Norman and is on its way in September. But the band has already given us a tease, with its first single, “Burn,” going live on SoundCloud on July 14.

Willie Nelson - Stardust: 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition

None July 10th, 2008

Sony Legacy

Willie Nelson released an album of pop standards in 1978, striking new ground for country performers. "Stardust" became an instant classic and remained on the country charts for more than a decade, etching its place onto many all-time best lists compiled by fans, magazines and newspapers.

"Stardust"'s original songs have been digitally remastered and included on a 30th anniversary edition' a new, two-disc release that also includes a bonus CD containing Nelson's version of Louis Armstrong's hit "What a Wonderful World."

"Georgia on My Mind" is an obvious standout from the original release, and the remastered version sounds great. The Irving Berlin hit "Blue Skies," which made the rounds first on the Rodgers and Hart musical "Betsy," is a classic Willie cover tune, as is his version of "Unchained Melody," and is one of the more interesting takes on the much-covered song.

"Stardust: 30th Anniversary Legacy Edition" is a terrific collection of the redheaded stranger's take on the standards, updated digitally and packaged with a cross section of lesser-known but enjoyable tunes.
