2006

Like mainlining monster doses of childhood nostalgia, these four-disc blasts of Saturday-morning anarchy keep steadily trickling forth from Warner Brothers, who, thankfully, have the good sense not to gloss over some of the trickier and less politically correct elements that abound in these Merry Melodies.

Cleaned up and packed into easily digestible 90-minute chunks, this fourth volume splits its time between Bugs Bunny, the work of director Frank Tashlin, Speedy Gonzales and cat-centric cartoons "” each disc contains ample supplemental material, including commentaries, shorts from the vaults and featurettes that both pay homage and peek behind the curtain. If you don't feel like shelling out for the "Golden Collection," Warner helpfully has curated the "Spotlight Collection," a more affordable, two-disc compilation.

With literally hundreds of cartoons still residing in the vaults, Bugs and friends are just warming up. You don't need me to tell you to snag this, and fast.

"“Preston Jones
