Answer This!

Watch ‘This!’ But only if you really, really are forgiving when it comes to rom-coms.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Question: Which straight-to-video movie dares to set a coming-of-age story in the context of a citywide pub trivia tournament?

Division III: Football's Finest

Fumble.

Comedy

Rod Lott
I'll say this about Andy Dick: The guy commits. But some things aren't worth throwing one's weight behind: the Holocaust, this.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

Let's get it on (the TV).

Comedy

Rod Lott
Fresh from throwing his epic, annual White Trash Bash, professional gadabout Eric (Jason Sudeikis, TV's "Saturday Night Live") is told by his father that the Hampton home that has served as party central for Eric and his friends for nearly two decades is going on the market.

Burke and Hare

Serial killers turn slapstick for director John Landis’ return.

Comedy

Rod Lott
I have missed seeing the work of John Landis on the big screen. Once a can’t-miss comedy director — “National Lampoon’s Animal House,” “Trading Places,” “An American Werewolf in London” — he hasn’t had a film open wide since the deserved bombing of 1998’s dismal “Blues Brothers 2000.”

Klown Kamp Massacre

A three-ring circus, Troma-style.

Comedy

Rod Lott
What's worse than a pie in the face? A pie in the face, followed by a very sharp knife. So it is in Troma's "Klown Kamp Massacre," a supremely silly but occasionally inspired comedy from Troma.

The Hangover Part II

The wolf pack is back. Plus, a monkey.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Considerable criticism has been lobbed at "The Hangover Part II" for essentially resurrecting the story template of the first film. Yeah, but really, what else could you expect them to do? Besides, it's not like director/co-writer Todd Phillips just used the same jokes.

Vampires

Quick, sprinkle garlic on that popcorn!

Comedy

Rod Lott
Comedy is hard; horror comedy is harder. Throw a foreign language in there, and it's harder even still. And while the French film "Vampires" is far better than our own country's "Vampires Suck" spoof, it still has no bite.

Chillerama

Drive-in drivel lives in ‘Chillerama,’ a cult classic in the making.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Fun, fearless and flatulent, "Chillerama" is the indie version of "Grindhouse," at once a loving tribute to and lampoon of exploitation cinema that thrived as drive-in fodder.

Astron-6

Hey, remember the ’80s? Astron-6 won’t let you forget!

Comedy

Rod Lott
Reads the cover of the "Astron-6" DVD, "What the @#*! is -- Astron-6." I didn't know, either, but now I'm glad I do.

Our Idiot Brother

Oh, 'Brother,’ why bother?

Comedy

Rod Lott
Paul Rudd was absolutely hilarious opposite Rashida Jones! In "I Love You, Man." Paul Rudd was absolutely hilarious opposite Elizabeth Banks! In "Role Models."

The Family Tree / Father of Invention

Don't we get enough of this crap at home?

Comedy

Rod Lott
No more comedies about quirky, dysfunctional families, please — at least those in which the entire point is that said families are dysfunctional and quirky. That goes double if they go straight to video.

Hollywood Party / The Lost Stooges

Back when your grandparents called them 'picture shows.'

Comedy

Rod Lott
From 1934, "Hollywood Party" is exactly the kind of movie they don't make anymore, the kind of movie they can't make anymore, what with star salaries now stratospheric.

Dahling: A Tribute to Zsa Zsa Gabor / The Legacy Collection: Kirk Douglas

Two stars of various wattage are celebrated in new collections of royalty-free films.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Inception Media Group seems intent on reviving sales of public-domain DVDs with two new sets, themed by stars, in “The Legacy Collection: Kirk Douglas” and “Dahling: A Tribute to Zsa Zsa Gabor.” Ironically, although Douglas is far more talented than Gabor, her release is the more entertaining of the two.

Crazy, Stupid, Love.

‘Crazy,' a little. 'Stupid,' no.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Sane, smart, like. That's "Crazy, Stupid, Love." in the proverbial nutshell — a rom-com that plays to adults' intelligence and doesn't dumb things down ... well, maybe not until the tail end. For most of its two hours — too long, yes — it's a nice but unspectacular surprise.

Submarine

The periscope stands at mid-level.

Comedy

Rod Lott
You've seen "Submarine" even if you haven't seen "Submarine." An alternate title for it might be "Not Another Quirky, Overnarrated, Overaffected British Teen Movie."
