Boundary issues

Letters to the Editor

Rob Abiera
In reading the description of how police officers abused alleged code violations in order to harass and intimidate the owners of Angles back in the early ’80s (James Cooper, “From closet to community, part two,” Nov. 9, Gazette), I couldn’t help but be reminded of recent coverage (News, Clifton Adcock, “Midtown Mayhem,” Sept. 7, Gazette) of the ABLE Commission, whose activities in enforcing Oklahoma’s liquor laws contributed to the shutting down of the inaugural H&8th Night Market in August of this year.

A shot in the dark

Letters to the Editor

Tom Furlong
I find it interesting and instructive that on Page 19 of the Nov. 9 Gazette, Mark Hancock’s photo of the area where homosexuals congregate is shot in near darkness.

Spurned station

Letters to the Editor

Wanda Jo Stapleton
I’m responding to Clifton Adcock’s article “Spur of the moment” in the Nov. 2 Gazette. This article is about the problems regarding “the rail line, extending east of Santa Fe Station, which is slated to be the city’s future intermodal transportation hub.”

‘Shock and applause’

Letters to the Editor

It was with great shock and applause that I read Jenny Coon Peterson’s “Not everybody’s ready for some football” (Oct. 12, Gazette).

A response to Wesselhoft

Letters to the Editor

Chris Reiger
Rep. Paul Wesselhöft’s letter (“Rep. Paul Wesselhöft questions Islamophobia,” Oct. 5, Gazette) struck me as very ironic. His attempt to defend himself against charges of being Islamophobic and ill-informed demonstrated that he is both.

Shame on The Oklahoman

Letters to the Editor

D.W. Tiffee
An Oct. 12 editorial in The Oklahoman (“Occupy Wall Street movement: Raging against what exactly?”) described the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators as “useful idiots” who were protesting “The Man” — people like Steve Jobs.

Performance enhancement

Letters to the Editor

Jay Hubbard
Please explain to actress and director Cristela Carrizales (Letters, “Upon further review,” Nov. 2, Gazette) that — though the stories her players portray may be interesting — people are not coming to see how the stories go.

‘Speaking truth to power’

Letters to the Editor

David Nickell
The first installment of James Cooper’s powerful cover story about the emergence of the LGBT community in Oklahoma City (“From closet to community,” Nov. 2, Oklahoma Gazette) is a reminder that social progress more often results from reactions of brave individuals willing to risk all than well-thought-out plans.

I read with interest the article by Mr. Clifton Adcock concerning water usage during this recent drought (News, “Water hogs,” Oct. 19, Oklahoma Gazette.)

Diverse values

Letters to the Editor

Jeff Hamilton
Diversity has always been a factor of significance. That was the message of Jill Carroll as keynote speaker on “The Challenges of Religious Diversity” on Oct. 18 for the annual meeting of the Interfaith Alliance Foundation of Oklahoma.
