Artful eating

Eat your arty little heart out!

Food and Drink Features

Greg Elwell
Art is great, right? It’s all … artsy, and it makes you feel stuff. Which is why, when the torrential rains of late April show up, we OKCers like to head downtown and walk around looking at it during the perennially wet and wonderful Festival of the Arts.

Don’t be crabby

Excellent service and authentic food await you in this Creole hideaway.

What’s good: Crawfish étouffée and shrimp Creole are about as authentic as you’ll get around here.
What’s not so good: The goofy decorations.
Tips: Be sure to ask for the Crabtown Trash when your waitress first comes by, as it sometimes sells out.

Don’t be a weenie

Try out-of-the-box hot dogs that will take your taste buds on a gourmet adventure.

Restaurant Reviews

Greg Elwell
What works: The standard dog combinations are inventive and delicious.

What needs work: A few of the specialty dogs are so loaded with toppings you can't really taste the meat that makes them special.

The tip: Not in the mood for a dog? You can get any dog toppings on a burger.

Grand-slam grub

The RedHawks season opens with more options for America’s second-favorite pastime: eating.

Food and Drink Features

Greg Elwell
When the 2012 RedHawks season begins Thursday with a homestand against our most-hated foes and history’s greatest monsters, the Memphis Redbirds, there will be baseball and sunshine. But most important, there will be food.

Hurts so good

This Thai house isn’t afraid to turn up the heat with its curry and chile dishes.

Restaurant Reviews

When my friends came to town — yes, I have them; don’t act so shocked — they had a few places they wanted to stop. La Baguette for brunch. The Wedge for dinner. And lunch, they insisted, must be at … Pei Wei.

Keep on truckin’

The mobile food trend didn’t waste any time making its way to town.

Food and Drink Features

Running a restaurant isn’t cheap. You need walls. You need a parking lot. Waiters. Chairs. Forks.

Leave the brushes at home; this Picasso is all about eats.

Picasso Cafe
What works:
Crowd-pleasing menu and service.
What needs work:
I'd like en entrée of pretzels. But that's more my issue.
Tips:
Go at night and get a drink. Hippy Juice tastes like smiles, but will knock you down.

Irish ayes

You’re in luck if you’re hoping for authentic Irish fare on Saturday.

Food and Drink Features

Greg Elwell
It’s said that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. Except that there never were any snakes in Ireland. And the snakes he said were driven out were attacking him during a 40-day fast which, let’s be frank, could make anybody a bit loopy.

Last supper

It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel full.

Food and Drink Features

Greg Elwell
The problem with the end of the world is not all the volcanoes spewing lava and the plagues of locusts, frogs and (wild guess, here) wildebeests. Sure, the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse and 76 Trombones and probably Nic Cage as Ghost Rider are bad, but you know what’s worse?

What needs work: Some comfort-food faves lacked any real standout appeal.
The tip: If you're avoiding meat, this is the place for you.

Moon Thai

You’ll fill up on authentic Thai dishes, as well as a few Japanese selections, at Moon Thai.

Restaurant Reviews

Greg Elwell
Moon Thai
2218 N.W. 23rd

What works: The pad thai and chicken chili paste are great.
What needs work: The heater, apparently. It was chilly in there.
Tips: They used to have a lunch buffet. They don’t have a lunch buffet anymore. Just order off the menu. It’s worth it.
