"Fight Your Way to a Better Marriage"
“Fight Your Way to a Better Marriage” will be the theme of a free evening marriage conference with Dr. Greg and Erin Smalley on January 18, 2013. Metropolitan Baptist Church located at 7201 West Britton Road, Oklahoma City is hosting this event as a gift to the community. Dr. Greg Smalley is Executive Director of Marriage and Family Formation at Focus on the Family and will speak to the conference about principles based in his book, Fight Your Way to a Better Marriage.
The evening will include three sessions: The Reactive Cycle – common issues like finances, sex, and kids, which are not what causes conflict, but are the trigger topics that hit emotional “buttons”; L.U.V.E. Talk - instead of judging, learn to listen, understand, validate, and empathize; and Teamwork – learn how to either "win" or “lose” together.
“With two people in a relationship, there is no way you are always going to agree on everything or think the same way,” says Greg Smalley. “If you did, one of you wouldn’t be necessary.” The Smalleys, who are on staff at Focus on the Family, have recently celebrated 20 years of marriage and are committed to helping strengthen marriages, as well as providing support for couples in crisis.
