The Beethoven String Quartet Series

None
8 p.m., Wednesday March 13

The University of Oklahoma School of Music presents the Holmberg String Quartet, part of the Beethoven String Quartet Series, exploring the history of Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets.  The concert will be held at 8 p.m. March 13 in the Sharp Concert Hall, Catlett Music Center in Norman.  They will perform Beethoven’s String Quartet in C Minor Op. 18 No. 4, and String Quartet in E-Flat Major Op. 127.

The Beethoven String Quartet Series is made possible by the financial support of the OU Presidential Dream Course, which allows professors to enhance a course with guest experts to perform, interact with the students enrolled in the course and to give a public lecture.  The Norman Arts Council gave additional support to the series.

The Holmberg String Quartet is entering its fourth decade as the faculty string ensemble at the University of Oklahoma School of Music. The quartet has toured Europe, given world premieres of compositions by numerous American composers and made television films for PBS. The quartet’s schedule of performances keeps them abreast of current performance practices and enables them to bring their professional experience back to the classroom to benefit students in the OU string program. The Holmberg String Quartet is named after Fredrick Holmberg, who served as the first dean of the University of Oklahoma College of Fine Arts.  The Holmberg String Quartet members include Hal Grossman, violin, Gregory Lee, violin, Mark Neumann, viola, and Jonathan Ruck, cello.
