Faculty Art Show
On June 14, 2013 the Firehouse Art Center opens its doors to the public from 6 – 9 p.m. for a reception and exhibition featuring the art work of its faculty members. The exhibition will be on display June 10th – July 20th. An additional public reception, coinciding with the 2nd Friday Circuit of Art will be held on July 12th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The gallery is also open to the public Monday – Friday from 9:30-5:30, and Saturday from 10:00-4:00.
Come see the talented faculty at the Firehouse Art Center as they unveil new work for 2013. Our faculty are known for being gifted educators and this is an excellent chance to see their wide variety of talent displayed in one location. Artists from each medium taught at the Firehouse will be represented, including painting, fiber, stone carving, jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, glass and more.
“The Faculty Show is a great opportunity for our community to experience the art of our gifted faculty. It is through their work with the community that, in 2012, we became the proud recipient of two awards for accomplishments in art education; the Governor’s Award for ‘The Arts in Education’ and the first Norman Arts Council ‘Art Education Award,’ sponsored by Fowler Volkswagen. During the gallery reception, guests will have a chance to speak with artists about their work and the classes they teach,” said Douglas Shaw Elder, Executive Director of the Firehouse Art Center.
Firehouse Art Center sponsors include: the Harris Foundation, The Kirkpatrick Family Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Norman Arts Council, the Oklahoma Arts Council, Republic Bank and Trust, Sarkeys Foundation, Target, the Anne V. Zarrow Fund and the City of Norman. Discussing the importance of these sponsors, Mr. Elder noted “We also owe thanks to many individual donors and members of the FAC for their generous support of the Firehouse programs.
