The Drowsy Chaperone

3 p.m., Sunday February 16

The Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre and University Theatre collaborate to bring the Tony Award-winning musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone to stage.  The production will open at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, with six additional performances at 8 p.m. Feb. 15, 20-22, and matinees at 3 p.m. Feb. 16 and 23 in the Rupel J. Jones Theatre, 563 Elm Street, Norman.  This production is rated G.

It’s a show-within-a-show full of every cliché, gag and gimmick from musicals of the golden era.  The Drowsy Chaperone has captured the hearts of people across the country, so make a date for this delightful musical comedy valentine.

Lyn Cramer veteran director, actor and professor directs this light-hearted musical adventure.  “A multiple Tony Award winner, The Drowsy Chaperone pays tribute to the Jazz-Age shows of the 1920s and their power to transport us into a dazzling fantasy and to lift our spirits in hard times,” said Lyn Cramer, director.  “It all begins when a die-hard musical-theatre fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room. We are swept into the glamorous and hilarious tale of a reluctant stage star bride, a groom on skates, a tap-dancing best man, a womanizing gigolo, gangsters posing as bakers, and an intoxicated chaperone!  You’ll still be smiling long after the final bow.  Finally, a musical about people who adore musicals!”

Cast members are students from the Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre, they are Victoria Abhalter, Jordon Barron, Brandon Block, Matthew Borchers, Aaron Boudreaux, Alexis Bruza, Jacob Chancellor, Kai Daly, Andrew Gallop, Dorcas Leung, Sarah Quinn, Kassiani Menas, Gray Randolph, Tanner Rose, Nancy Ross, Basit Shittu, Taylor Rae Steedman, Brett Uram, and Daisy Wright.  The production staff includes Dr. Harold Mortimer, music director and conductor, Jon Young, scenic designer, Melissa Perkins, costume designer, Adam Honoré, lighting designer, Alan Hiserodt, sound designer, Meredith Autrey, stage manager, Mitch Southerland, technical director, Kasey Allee-Foreman, production manager, Paul Christman, artistic director and Rich Taylor, executive producer.
