13th Annual Yukon Senior Games

If you’re over 50 and like competition, Yukon Senior Games may be for you! Sponsored by Yukon Parks and Recreation, Senior Games is looking for active persons 50 years and older to compete in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Yukon’s Senior Games is an Olympic-style sports event designed to promote healthy lifestyles for 
seniors through fitness, sports, active lifestyle and athletic competition. 

Participants compete according to age brackets: 50 – 54; 55 – 59; 60 – 64; 65 – 69; 70 – 74; 75 – 79; 80 – 84, 85 - 89 and 90 and up. Age is determined as of December 31, 2014. Medals are awarded to the top 3 finishers in each age category. Events are held at various Yukon Park and Recreation facilities and other athletic venues including AMF Yukon Lanes, Crosstrainers Fitness, Spanish Cove Retirement Village and Surrey Hills Golf Club. 

Events included in the Yukon Senior Games are: Archery (Barebow Recurve, Compound Fingers, Compound Release, Compound Barebow and Recurve), Basketball (Free Throw, Three Pointers, Hot Shot, 3 on 3 and Timed Dribbling), Bowling (Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles), Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball (Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles), Pool (8 Ball), Table Tennis (Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles), Track (50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m Racewalk, 1600m) and Field (Discus, Hammer Throw, Shot Put, Javelin, High Jump, Running Long Jump, Standing Long Jump, Triple Jump and Pole Vault), Washer Pitching, and Weightlifting (Arm Curl, Bench Press, Leg Press, Push Ups and Sit Ups).

Registration fee is $20.00. You may enter up to four events for the $20 fee, any additional events after four will cost an additional $2 each. Track and Field participants will be limited to 6 events within that sport. Registration forms are available online on the Yukon Parks and Recreation webpage as well as at Yukon Parks and Recreation facilities including the Jackie Cooper Gym, 1021 East Main, 350-8920; the Yukon Community Center, 2200 South Holly, 354-8442. Register prior to March 21stthe $5 late fee. All registration ends March 28th. All entrants receive a Yukon Senior Games T-Shirt and a ticket to the social reception on Friday evening. 

If you are more artistic than athletic, then maybe the Creative Arts Contest is for you. There are two alternatives in the Creative Arts Contest: Creative Writing and Photography. Creative Writing categories include: Poetry, Short Story or Essay while the Photography categories are: Daily Life, Portrait and Nature. The fee for the Creative Arts is $5 for the first entry and $3 for each additional entry. Please only one entry per category.
