Beppe Gambetta

None
7 p.m., Sunday March 30
From his unique background as an Italian musician in love with both American roots music and the music of his native country, Beppe Gambetta has traveled the world to dazzle and charm music enthusiasts everywhere.  Gambetta will close the Winter Wind Series in the Norman Depot, 200 South Jones Avenue, on Sunday, March 30 with a 7:00 pm concert.  Tickets are $20.

Gambetta has been well-known in the global steel-string guitar scene for years and is widely recognized as the leading flatpick guitarist of Europe.  Also a talented vocalist who sings in both English and Italian, Beppe’s is an inspired music that doesn’t rely solely on his high level of technical excellence, but also reveals the innermost feelings of a playful mind that is always exploring and innovating while staying firmly routed in tradition.

Gambetta's technique, which echoes both Doc Watson and the Moravian folk music he loves, is characterized by flashy licks, intricate cross-picking patterns, open tunings, and fluid slides up and down the neck of the guitar.

Known for his charm and engaging stage presence, Beppe has performed in prestigious U.S. festivals such as Walnut Valley, Merlefest, and Kerrville Folk Festival, and those in Winnipeg and Edmonton Canada. He's appeared on radio shows All Things Considered and E-Town and has performed in prestigious rooms like the Ryman Auditorium and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.    He is currently touring to support his recently released CD, The American Album, his twelfth.

Beppe has been called a "virtual United Nations of influences: Italian, Ukrainian, Appalachian, Sardinisn, Celtic".  With America in his heart and his roots in the sun  of the Mediterranean sea, he bridges the shores of the two continents, spending half of each year on each, creating a musical fusion where country music and Ligurian tradition, emigration songs and folk ballads, not only coexist but interact, weaving a deep dialog unaware of any rigid classification.

Concert tickets are available through www.TicketStorm.com and at the Performing Arts Studio in the Norman Depot.  For additional information on this and other PAS programs visit www.pasnorman.org or phone 405 307-9320.
