Freedom of Expression
Saturday July 19
In Your Eye Gallery, in the Historic Paseo Arts District, presents "Freedom of Expression," a compelling exhibit by abstract painter Theresa Hurt and metal sculptor Basil Martin III. Both artists will donate 10% of the proceeds from this show to a charity of personal significance to them. The show opens Friday, July 4, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and continues through Saturday, July 26.
Utilizing vibrant strokes of acrylic paint, national watermedia award winner and cancer survivor Theresa Hurt tells her own personal story of faith and hope. In Hurt's words: "I am thankful for each day and try to convey in my art brightness and hope of things to come." Hurt begins by applying a random color to the canvas. From there, she adds other colors, searching intuitively for forms to appear as she proceeds. This process continues until the canvas is covered, frequently layer on top of layer, and finally resulting in the rhythmic waves of color that most often characterize Hurt's work.
In Your Eye Studio & GalleryPhone:
Oklahoma City sculptor Basil Martin III begins the construction of his striking sculptures by cutting out individual organic shapes from steel or stainless sheets of metal. He then welds them together into lyrical and curvaceous open forms, creating a unified and dynamic piece of art suggestive of both reaching and growth. Martin explains, "I have learned through my unique creative process that experimentation leads to innovation in my work."
Each artist will donate 10% of the proceeds from this show to benefit a favorite charity: Hurt to St. Baldrick's Foundation (funding childhood cancer research) and Martin to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Join us for two provocative interpretations of the phrase "Freedom of Expression" at In Your Eye Gallery from July 4-26. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5:00 pm.
