AUDITORIUM PRESENTS BACK-TO-BACK PERFORMANCES FROM THE RUSSIAN NATIONAL BALLET

p.m.

EDMOND, Okla. (Jan. 11, 2012) – Armstrong Auditorium will kick
off 2013 with two nights of performances from the Russian
National Ballet Theatre. The world-renown performers return to the
Armstrong stage on Monday, Jan. 28 and Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

“With two sold-out shows over the past two seasons, it is
clear Oklahomans love the Russian National Ballet Theatre,” said Shane Granger,
Armstrong Auditorium house manager. “Not only are these magnificent performers coming
back again this season, they are bringing two different shows over two nights.”

For the first night, the theatre will bring to life the
full-length, three-act ballet, Cinderella.
With music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreography by Rostislav Zakharov, the
beloved fairy tale will include lavish sets and authentic costumes from the
Bolshoi Theatre era.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre’s second night of performances
includes two classic one-act ballets. The first act is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet set to Tchaikovsky’s
score and choreographed by “the father of classical ballet,” Marius Petipa. The
second act is the first of Mikhail Fokine’s masterpieces, Chopiniana. Rather than characters developing, the ballet has a nontraditional
plot set to the music of Chopin with the themes, moods and feelings of the
performance changing.

“Only 75 feet separates the stage from the back wall, allowing
even our largest audiences to have perfect sight lines for this world-class
experience in the luxurious Armstrong Auditorium,” continued Granger.

Armstrong Auditorium provides season and flexible ticket
pricing systems. Tickets
to see the Russian National Ballet Theatre start at $42 for balcony seating and
$80 for orchestra seating.
