Wanda Jackson — Unfinished Business

Rock

Phil Bacharach
You can’t keep genuine royalty from flaunting their power. Wanda Jackson, the 1950s’ Queen of Rockabilly who set the standard for rock ’n’ roll women and even managed to get Elvis Presley hot and bothered, is back with Unfinished Business.

Skull World

It’s not necessarily connected to the funny bone.

Documentary

Rod Lott
I’m of two minds about the documentary feature Skull World, now available on VOD: On one hand, its subject is not your ordinary, everyday guy who’s been doc’d to death. On the other, why encourage him?

No, really, these are true.

Music

Rod Lott
If you are a parent to a tween girl, you likely already know what I'm about to say in the next sentence. Yesterday, teen idol Justin Bieber returned to Oklahoma City to invade the Chesapeake Energy Arena, 100 W. Reno. But did you know these five things about the 19-year-old Biebz?

Detention of the Dead / The Demented

They put the “Zzzzz” in “zombies.”

Horror

Rod Lott
Ten years ago, we didn’t have enough zombie movies. Now, we have too many of them, which might not be a problem if most weren’t so bland and unimaginative. Detention of the Dead tries — not too hard, mind you — to distinguish itself by being a comedy. Technically, I suppose it is; in execution, it fails.

Bowlsey — Sleepy Weather

Indie

Zach Hale
Bowlsey is a fearless bunch. Not fearless in that robotic, armor-clad superhero kind of way, but fearless because its members have nothing to lose, so why not rap over that muffled synth-pop track? Hell, you could even plant it between a couple soulful acoustic ballads. Sure, that’ll work.

Justin Adams — Justin Adams

Country

Joshua Boydston
Bixby native Justin Adams is a former college football standout with a school record for consecutive games played at Northern Iowa, and that intensity and determination have informed his new path as a country singer. His self-titled debut EP is a sleek, polished recording in line with the genre’s like-minded, clean-cut vocalists Easton Corbin, Luke Bryan and Chris Young.

The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue

Didn't dig it.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Tenants of a low-rent apartment building have some problems: The electricity has been shut off; their pets are disappearing under mysterious circumstances; and worst of all, they're stuck in a horror comedy that's not the least bit amusing: The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue.
