Meet King Leon, the skunk named after the rockin’ band with Oklahoma family ties. In order to keep the five-month-old critter as her own, Michigan teen Keili Woodruff paid $200, an additional $100 fee for the wildlife permit and had its scent gland removed, she told The Bay City Times.

Music Made Me: Mike Hosty

The rollicking blues enthusiast shares the five albums that shaped his rugged musical outlook.

Music

Phil Bacharach
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Will the Circle be Unbroken (1972)

My dad bought this album and played it over and over on his new 1978 Nikko hi-fi stereo, which I still have. It was the guitar playing of Doc Watson and Merle Travis that really caught my ear. Amazing picking, playing and songs like “Tennessee Stud.”

If there’s one thing Kings of Leon know how to do, it’s party. Just listen to their lyrics: “What a night for a dance, you know I’m a dancing machine” (“Revelry”) or, of course, “Oh, she saw my party, she saw my party” (“My Party”).

Kings of leon sing about Okie ties

While beloved by many, August: Osage County hasn’t exactly won over critics … here in Oklahoma, anyway. It’s fitting, then, that the star-studded film’s soundtrack features an Oklahoma band (kinda-sorta) in Kings of Leon, who, similarly, are as polarizing as the movie itself.

Kings of everything

CFN

Weird things happen at Kings of Leon concerts: birds poop on the band, Brad Pitt shows up to party. But what went down in Seattle late last month is pretty sickening.
