Criticizing creationists

Letters to the Editor

J.A. Gowman
The main reason creationists criticize evolution is that it is still just a scientific “theory,” not a scientific “law.” A “theory” starts out as a plausible idea, for which evidence is collected.

The East

For an indie thriller with as much intelligence as intrigue, just head to ‘The East.’ No compass needed.

Thriller

Rod Lott
Across her three films as an actress/writer/producer (2011’s Another Earth, 2012’s Sound of My Voice and now The East), Brit Marling has explored the subjects of cults, symbols, duplicates, identity and family. Remarkably, despite these recurring themes and a tonal similarity, each experience seems anew.

Gallowwalkers

Like ‘Blade’ with a badge.

Western

Rod Lott
One of the most fun movies of the summers isn’t even in theaters. It’s Gallowwalkers, a weird, wild Western starring Wesley Snipes, freshly sprung from prison after serving three years for failure to file income tax returns. The lesson: Even Blade can’t mess with the IRS!

The East

'East' meets best.

Thriller

Rod Lott
Across her three films as an actress/writer/producer (2011’s Another Earth, 2012’s Sound of My Voice and this summer's unjustly ignored The East), Brit Marling has explored the subjects of cults, symbols, duplicates, identity and family. Remarkably, despite these recurring themes and a tonal similarity, each experience seems anew.

70 bands in 14 venues. Need we say more? How about a DJ set from electronic music heavyweight Moby? (Heavy in reputation; not stature.) That’s what the ACM@UCO Rocks Bricktown Festival offers Oklahoma City residents as part of the school’s fifth annual celebration. Music commences 3 p.m. Friday throughout Bricktown and continues throughout the rest of the day. Admission is free. See page 4 for our full story and page 31 for a special pull-out guide.
