Cozy Christmas

For the most part, I love living a few states away from family. Maybe “love” isn’t the right word. “Cherish?” I love my family — I cherish my independence.

Barney's Version

Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular

Comedy

Rod Lott
At last month’s Golden Globes, when Paul Giamatti won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for “Barney’s Version,” you, too, may have asked, “What the hell is ‘Barney’s Version’?”

Zombie it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

While The Walking Dead’s new season is still a month away, the undead already have invaded Bigfoot Creative, 315 E. Main in Norman, in the form of an art exhibition. Zombie Skins: Salon de la Vie Morte features eerie images from a mix of artists who, unlike their subject, still have their guts intact. The exhibition runs through Oct. 8. Admission is free. Call 420-0119 or visit ahalenia.com/zombie.

TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay — Away from Keyboard

The torrent site’s founders get a legal lesson IRL.

Documentary

Rod Lott
I first heard of The Pirate Bay when a friend told me about this site where he had just downloaded and watched Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle — then in theaters — at the comfort of his own home.

It hardly seemed worth the trouble. Obviously, I’m in the minority, as the site claims more than 25 million active users worldwide, who share movies, music, video games and other copyrighted works via torrent files.

Another Round — Just Walk Away

Rock

Louis Fowler
When you get to a movie early, you have to sit through numerous ads. Among the most entertaining are for the National Guard: Strong, determined individuals kick in doors and save children from raging flood waters while a specially made tune from Nickleback or Hinder blasts in the background, providing a fist-bumping soundtrack to these heroes’ courageous acts.

Street Trash

Now every day can be garbage day.

Comedy

Rod Lott
Street Trash is a semipolitical horror comedy that pulls out all the stops in an all-out effort seemingly to offend as many viewers as possible. Personally, I think that’s a good thing.
