Piranha 3D

Plot? Fish eat people. What more do you need?

Horror

Rod Lott
This past summer, only one movie featured Oklahoma City porn starlet Ashlynn Brooke losing her top and then losing her top half. (Well, to my knowledge, as I don’t watch porn.) That film was “Piranha 3D,” now on Blu-ray, either in 3-D or 2-D formats.

Chawz

The other white meat is pissed in this weak monster-movie tribute.

Horror

Rod Lott
South Korea just doesn't know when to quit with "Chawz," a comedy/horror hybrid that clocks in at more than two hours in length.

Savage County

Unlikable characters in an aggravating release

Horror

Rod Lott
MTV's "Savage County" began life as a web series, and feels like it for every agonizing, disjointed, no-frills minute.

Within / The Dead and the Damned

‘Damned’ if you do.

Horror

Rod Lott
I love horror films far more than most people, but I do not, as some accuse, love them all blindly. In fact, two new to DVD are among the worst I’ve seen in the year thus far.

Stake Land

Bite into this zombie-vampire hybrid.

Horror

Rod Lott
Like the hit "Zombieland" played straight, "Stake Land" follows a grizzled, seen-it-all hunter and his young protégé across a postapocalyptic America riddled with the undead.

We Are What We Are

Taste this Mexican meal concerning the other white meat.

Horror

Rod Lott
Members of the family at the heart of "We Are What We Are" share blood, both literally and figuratively. Because they're cannibals, you see.

Bio-Dead

There’s something out there. Yawn.

Horror

Rod Lott
With a pulsing score that recalls the best of John Carpenter, the blue-tinted “Bio-Dead” begins promisingly enough, as a handful of guys in hazmat suits approaches yet another seemingly abandoned building to comb for survivors, post-chem disaster.

The Task / Scream of the Banshee

Clowns or banshees? Take your pick.

Horror

Rod Lott
After Dark Originals return this month with two more new releases, “The Task” and “Scream of the Banshee” — one of which may make your day.

Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf

A howlingly enjoyable treat.

Horror

Rod Lott
With “Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf” and its seemingly unconnected storylines, I don’t feel like I watched a movie. I feel like I watched four back-to-back episodes of a miniseries too out-there, too jumbled for prime-time tastes, like Stephen King’s “Kingdom Hospital.”
